Requiem Mass for President Sleiman Kabalan Frangieh (1910-1992)
A Requiem Mass was celebrated to mark the anniversary of the death of President Sleiman Kabalan Frangieh. The service took place at Saint Antonious Church, Palais of President Sleiman Frangieh, Ehden.
Reverend Fr Estephane Frangieh celebrated mass. In attendance were El Marada leader MP Sleiman Frangieh and his Mrs Rima Frangieh, Robert Beik Frangieh, Mrs Lamia Dahdah, Mrs Sonia Rassi, Mrs Maya Monarsha, Defence Minister Fayez Ghosn, MP Estephane Douaihy, former MP Abdul Rahman Abdul Rahman, former MP Karim Rassi, Mr Roy Issa Khoury, Mr Ziad MAkary Zgharta Mayor Toufic Mouawad, Zgharta Councils Federal president Tony Sleiman, Jbeil Mayor Jino Kallab and numerous community leaders.
The late President was born on 15th June 1910, the second eldest son of Kabalan Sleimen Frangieh and Lamia Raffoul. His grand-father, Sleiman Ghnatios Frangieh, was District Governor of Ehden (1904-1908) the President's father was District Governor of Ehden (1908 -1913) and Member of Parliament (1929-1932).
In 1960 he was elected Member of Parliament, being re-elected in 1964 and 1968. He held various ministerial offices namely as Minister of Post Telegraph and Telephone, of Agriculture, of the Interior, of Justice, of Economy and of Public Works. On 23rd September 1970 he was elected President of the Republic of Lebanon and remained in office until 22nd September 1976. President Frangieh died on 23rd July 1992.
Prime Minister Designate, Tamam Salam, met with "The Free and United Lebanon Decision" Bloc Head, Sleiman Frangieh, MP Salim Karam, MP Estephan Doueihi and MP Emil Rahme. Frangieh wished him success in forming a new cabinet representing all sides in the country.
